Punkin Days

Going 30 years strong in the Pumpkin Capitol, USA

The Floydada Chamber of Commerce hosted the 30th Annual Punkin Days on October 14, 2017. This annual harvest-time celebration in the pumpkin capitol of Texas honors none other than the pumpkin. What started as a way to celebrate the end of harvest has now become a yearly tradition in the community.
The main event kicked off Saturday morning in Downtown Floydada with a 5K run followed by a variety of over 100 vendors, food, arts and craft booths, and pumpkin themed games. Earlier that week, events included the best decorated home and business contests and a book sale at the Floyd County Memorial Library.
The nostalgia of historic Floydada was in the air as patrons walked through the classic car show, partook in the pumpkin pie eating contest, learned to make rope at the Floyd County Historic Museum, auctioned for “punkins”, and ended the day with a street dance.

This year’s Punkin Days BBQ Cook-Off was sponsored by the Reagor Dykes Auto Group and judged by our very own Bart Reagor. Contestants cooked up their best brisket, ribs, and chicken which were tasted and judged in the Reagor Dykes Chevrolet location in the heart of Floydada.
Winners Martin Suarez Jr (chicken and brisket) and The Beefie Boys (ribs) took home the grand prize of $200 for their respective category.
Punkin Days is funded by the generous donations of local businesses and individuals. The town of Floydada comes together as a whole to make this festival an even bigger success each year.
Those in attendance this year were sure to leave with happy hearts, bellies, and kids as the original philosophy of “Fun for Everyone!” is still upheld.
